It has been confirmed that it’s the modern day adaption of Hindu epic Ramayana and remember earlier, he had adapted ‘Mahabharatha’ for Thalapathy.

Vikram plays as Ravanan
Aishwarya plays as Seetha
Prithviraja plays as Raman
PRiyamani plays as Surphanakai
Raavana in Hindi
Vikram plays as Raman
Abhishek Bachchan as Ravanan
Aishwarya as seetha
and yet to be decided on who is acting for surphankai
He is a good actor and has even been hailed as a navarasa nayakan. But the many producers and directors will have more to say on the subject.
After sets worth several lakhs are put up, hero Karthik would fail to turn up for shooting, citing tummy ache or gas problem. This has caused heart break for many a producer. This was about all the sincerity he showed to the profession he loved.
Now there's a total change in this Karthik. He is acting in 'Ravanan' directed by Mani Ratnam. He is a forest officer in this. The shooting is taking place in Kerala's Challakudy area. If the shooting is to start at 8am, he reports at 7am to the sets, giving everyone a pleasant surprise.
Seeing Karthik's personality, an astonished Mani Ratnam said from now on, any producer can bravely cast Karthik in their films.
